ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: STUDY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN URINE FOR AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES

Resumo: | This article aims to discuss experiences of application of urine for agricultural purposes conducted in other countries such as Sweden, Germany, China and West Africa. The methodology of the study included a literature search on the industry and the production of fertilizers in Brazil, the qualitative and quantitative characterization of human urine, and different technologies of segregation and treatment of urine to extract nutrients. As a result, we sought to demonstrate that it can also be a viable solution to Brazil with a focus on environmental sustainability as a way of reducing the environmental impacts caused by industrial production of fertilizer and the release of untreated excreta in water bodies, and also be an alternative to the shortage of reserves of phosphorus that may impact future food production. |

Este artigo tem como objetivo discutir experiências de aplicação da urina para fins agrícolas conduzidas em outros países, tais como Suécia, Alemanha, China e África Ocidental. A metodologia do trabalho incluiu a pesquisa bibliográfica sobre a indústria e a produção de fertilizantes no Brasil, a caracterização quali-quantitativa da urina humana, e as diferentes tecnologias de segregação e tratamento da urina para extração de nutrientes. Como resultado, buscou-se demonstrar que esta pode ser também uma solução viável para o Brasil com foco na sustentabilidade ambiental, como forma de redução dos impactos ambientais gerados pela produção de fertilizantes industriais e pelo lançamento de excretas sem tratamento nos corpos hídricos, além de ser também uma alternativa para a escassez das reservas de fósforo que podem impactar futuramente a produção de alimentos.
