The Ruins of Time: Memory and Uprisings

Resumo: Our century is marked by countless crises and upheavals. One of the hallmarks of the uprisings is the urgency for new signs and symbols that are capable of representing new narratives, marked by difference and by the critical stance towards the instituted. In this area, public space is the privileged stage for such a dispute. The overthrow of the statues rekindled the debate about collective memory. What is at stake in the construction and demolition of monuments? Do the symbols represented there still make sense? The artistic proposals of Rosangela Rennó and the collective 3Nós3 touch on this issue and guide us in the search for making explicit its implications in the fields of art and politics. It is on the perspective of affections and micropolitical analysis that the relationship with contemporary symbols and narratives is being built.

El derrocamiento de las estatuas reavivó el debate sobre la memoria colectiva. ¿Qué está en juego en la construcción y demolición de monumentos? ¿Los símbolos representados allí todavía tienen sentido? Las propuestas artísticas de Rosangela Rennó y el colectivo 3Nós3 tocan este tema y nos orientan en la búsqueda de hacer explícitas sus implicaciones en los campos del arte y la política. Nessa seara o espaço público é palco privilegiado para tal disputa. A derrubada das estátuas reacendeu o debate acerca da memória coletiva. O que está em jogo na construção e na derrubada de monumentos? Os símbolos que estão ali representados ainda fazem sentido? As propostas artísticas de Rosangela Rennó e do coletivo 3Nós3 tocam essa questão e nos guiam na busca por explicitar suas imbricações nos campos da arte e da política.
