Resumo: This article discusses the intertwining between the human and the monster through the analysis of the film The Exorcist (1973). The objective is based on the questioning of the boundaries established between the human characters and the monster of the narrative, presented through the figure of the devil who has had possessed a little girl. Bringing arguments from authors such as Julia Kristeva (1982), Luiz Nazário (1987, 1998), Jean Delumeau (1989), Noёl Carroll (1999) and Yi-Fu Tuan (2005), and building the development of the text based on Content Analysis according to the methodological procedures suggested by Laurence Bardin (2011), it was noticed that the monster appears in the narrative to question the established borders around humanity, in order to build a relationship of conflict, confusion, need and survival between monster and human.
