Brazil in the Collective Imaginary

For over 500 years, the country has been portrayed through the eyes of the other. The Brazilian characteristics are evidenced in the literature and in the studies of countless thinkers. This work aims to identify, through a bibliographic study, the imaginaries about Brazil traced by authors Buarque (2013), Damatta (1986), Durand (1996), Pitta (2015), Silva (1996), Souza (2019) and Zweig (1960). Unstructured interviews were also carried out with researchers of the theories of the imaginary Tacussel (2015) and Joron (2015). The collective imagination about the country began to be stimulated with the letter by Pero Vaz de Caminha, portraying its discovery and presenting different narratives throughout history, from the myth of the future to the myth of change. Today the characteristics of our spirit are reinforced mainly in the media.
