PILLARS OF FIRE, SMOKE CURTAINS and FLAMMABLE NARRATIVES: MULTIPLICATION OF FOREST FIRE AND NEW SOCIAL DYNAMICS OF THE EXPANSION OF THE AMAZONIAN AGRICULTURAL FRONTIER

Resumo: The article proposes to reflect on the actions to promote fires in the Amazon region that occurred from 2019 and their social effects. It seeks to identify how public discourses signaled an inflection in the imperative of Amazonian socio-environmental protection and legitimized practices of environmental devastation. It also examines the different impacts of this new dynamic on destined and non-destined lands, seeking to point out that this process has a strong impact on small farmers and traditional communities. Finally, it analyzes how this configuration is anchored in a set of recent transformations in the legal framework of land regularization that has been encouraging illegal land occupations in the expectation of future formalization of the stock of public lands in the Amazon.Keywords: Amazon, fires, land market, territorial conflicts, rural settlements.

Busca identificar cómo los discursos públicos señalaron una inflexión en el imperativo de protección socioambiental amazónica y prácticas legitimadas de devastación ambiental. También examina los diferentes impactos de esta nueva dinámica en las tierras destinadas y no destinadas, buscando señalar que este proceso tiene un fuerte impacto en los pequeños agricultores y las comunidades tradicionales. Finalmente, analiza cómo esta configuración está anclada en un conjunto de transformaciones recientes en el marco legal de regularización de tierras que ha venido fomentando ocupaciones ilegales de tierras en la expectativa de una futura formalización del stock de tierras públicas en la Amazonía.Palabras clave: Amazonía, incendios, mercado de tierras, conflictos territoriales, asentamientos rurales.O artigo propõe refletir sobre as ações para a promoção de queimadas na região amazônica ocorridas a partir de 2019 e seus efeitos sociais.
