Resumo: | A traditional popular market commonly known as Vuco-Vuco and concentrated around São José and Santo Antônio neighborhoods draws the attention of those walking the streets of Recife’s Historic Centre. The market supplies the greater area of Recife and surrounding cities with low-cost merchandise for both wholesale and retail commerce. Brazil’s insertion in the global market from the 1990’s on helped introduce new color schemes in store fronts of that area. Red and yellow signs convey names in Mandarin, announcing the presence of Chinese migrants. This paper aims at understanding the process through which migrants (re) reterritorialization of central historic parts of Recife, a process which has contributed to a broadening range of paths (stories) that coexist in that area. Keywords: Chinese migration; Reterritorialization; Historic Centre; Recife; São José |
