BELÉM’S FORMATION AS COMPACT CITY OR CONFINED: AN ANALYSIS FROM THE DWELLING’S PRODUCTION FORMS

Resumo: The current article aims to demonstrate the relationship between the change in the dwelling’s production forms and the periods of high transformations on the formation process of Belém’s city, highlighting the dynamics that show its constitution as a confined city during of 20th century. The study is based on an analytical-descriptive approach and geohistorical of city’s formation, through the analysis of space’s production and housing. As a methodological procedure was made a bibliographic study and historical maps’ production. Was concluded that the home’s capitalist production intensifies the urban valorization process and elitization of the central areas of Belém, started on rubber’s period, has as is core the socio-spatial segregation’s accentuation and formation of the center-periphery pattern that characterize the Belém’s constitution while confined city, on the course of 20th century. The investigation helps to unravel the mechanisms that sustain and amplifies the socio-spatial differentiation forged by the localization of households on the city set.  Key Words: Belém; Confined city; Dwelling’s production forms; Centrality; Sociospacial segregation.

Se presenta un estúdio basado en el enfoque analítico-descriptivo y geohistórico de la formación de la ciudad, teniendo como referencial a teorización sobre la producción del espacio y las formas de producción de la vivienda. Como procedimiento metodológico, se adoptó la investigación bibliográfica, acompañada del análisis y producción de mapas históricos. El estúdio analiza como la producción capitalista de vivienda intensifico dinâmicas heredadas de la época del caucho, principalmente la valorización urbano-inmobiliaria y la elitización de áreas centrales. La intensificación de estas dinámicas, en el transcurso del siglo XX, resulta en el reforzamiento del patrón centro-periferia y acentuación de los procesos de segregación socioespacial, que constituyen el núcleo de la constitución de Belém como ciudad confinada. La investigación ayuda a desentrañar los mecanismos que sustentan y amplían la diferenciación socioespacial forjada por la ubicación de la vivienda en el conjunto de la ciudad.O presente artigo tem por objetivo demonstrar a relação existente entre a alteração das formas de produção da moradia e os períodos de grandes transformações no processo de formação da cidade de Belém, destacando as dinâmicas que marcam sua constituição enquanto cidade confinada no transcurso do século XX. Apresenta-se um estudo pautado na abordagem analítico-descritiva e geohistórica da formação da cidade, por meio da análise da produção do espaço e da moradia. Como procedimento metodológico fez-se estudo bibliográfico e produção de mapas históricos. Conclui-se que a produção capitalista da moradia intensificou o processo de valorização urbana e elitização das áreas centrais de Belém, iniciado no período da borracha, tendo como cerne a acentuação da segregação socioespacial e formação do padrão centro-periferia que caracterizam a constituição de Belém enquanto cidade confinada, no transcurso do século XX. A investigação ajuda a desvendar os mecanismos que sustentam e ampliam a diferenciação socioespacial forjada pela localização da moradia no conjunto da cidade.
