THE PERFORMANCE OF A MINING COMPANY IN THE TRADITIONAL TERRITORY OF GERAIZEIRO IN THE NORTH OF MINAS GERAIS

Resumo: The North of the state of Minas Gerais becomes, with the turn of the century, the new frontier for the growth of the extractive activity of minerals within it. The region receives investments for the installation of mega mining projects. Among them is the Block 8 Project belonging to South American Metals S/A (SAM), for which the present work aims to discuss its environmental licensing process, considering that it will cause profound changes in the region of its installation, since that this area is inhabited by traditional populations of Geraizeiros. Thus, this article seeks to discuss the environmental licensing process of the Block 8 project in the Vale das Cancelas Geraizeiro Territory, Grão Mogol, Minas Gerais, identifying the affected communities, as well as highlighting the main strategies used by the company during the licensing process. The methodology consists of a literature review and analysis of social movement materials and documents available on the Internet.

La región recibe inversiones para la instalación de mega emprendimientos mineros. Entre ellos se encuentra el Proyecto Bloque 8 perteneciente a la Sudamericana de Metales S/A (SAM) por lo cual el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo discutir su proceso de licenciamiento ambiental, considerando que provocará profundos cambios en la región de su instalación, ya que dicha zona es habitada por poblaciones tradicionales de Geraizeiros. Así, este artículo pretende discutir el proceso de licenciamiento ambiental del proyecto Bloque 8 en el Territorio Minero Vale das Cancelas, Grão Mogol, Minas Gerais, identificando las comunidades afectadas, además de destacar las principales estrategias utilizadas por la empresa durante el proceso de licenciamiento. La metodología incluye una revisión bibliográfica y un análisis de los materiales y documentos de los movimientos sociales disponibles en Internet.O Norte de Minas Gerais torna-se, na virada do século, a nova fronteira para o crescimento da atividade de extração mineral dentro do estado. A região recebe investimentos para a instalação de megaempreendimentos de mineração, dentre eles encontra-se o Projeto Bloco 8 pertencente a Sul Americana de Metais S/A (SAM). Entende-se que a instalação do projeto provocará profundas mudanças na região, uma vez que, ela é ocupada por populações tradicionais geraizeiras. Desta forma, o presente artigo busca discorrer acerca do processo de licenciamento ambiental do projeto Bloco 8 no Território Geraizeiro do Vale das Cancelas, Grão Mogol, Minas Gerais, identificando as comunidades atingidas, bem como, destacando as principais estratégias utilizadas pela empresa durante o processo de licenciamento.
