THE EARTH THAT IS IN US: sambas about “essays” of a search

What this writing proposes are some steps towards a specific knowledge. A knowledge that links, in a single flight, arts, sciences and philosophies, in order to weave understandings on a topic in question, namely, the contemporary environmental crisis. In this interdisciplinary effort, art, especially samba, feeds us with beautiful images, so that we can reflect on the human-nature mismatch and rupture. These images were created in the poetic meeting of samba artists. In our view, such a rupture reveals the foundation of the crisis under discussion. Here some interpretations of the arts are appropriated by environmental thinking, the latter being supported by geographical reflections on the relationship between environment and society. The human being has lost the dimension of the earth that exists within himself, from the moment he moved away and continues to move away from immanent effectiveness. Parallel to this banishment, conventional thinking took comfort in transcendental bases, forged by the weight and authority of rationalism. From rational optimism became the optimism of technique, built to subject nature to its interests. It is on this path that we have followed in the effort to understand and think about the crisis that needs to be faced in our time.
