Resumo: Squamous cell carcinoma (EC), a skin neoplasm commonly observed in all species of domestic mammals, is considered the most common malignant neoplasm of the skin of cats. This cancer is associated with chronic exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation and has features such as local growth and a low metastatic disease is prevalent and important in the clinic cats. The diagnosis of this tumor is based on clinical history, physical examination and histologically by skin biopsy, but these are not always sufficient to evaluate the tumor behavior. Treatment options for this type of cancer include cryotherapy, surgical excision and electrosurgery, radiotherapy, hyperthermia and photochemotherapy. The criteria used to assess the prognosis of cancer are mainly based on TNM classification of the primary site of the lesion and histopathological features as the degree of cellular differentiation. Immunohistochemistry is an efficient and precise method, capable of displaying diagnostic and prognostic information. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anatomic-pathological features and expression of Ki-67 and caspase-3-clived in squamous cell carcinomas of the face of domestic cats. Were selected 20 cats (Felis catus) had neoplastic lesions single or multiple, located in the face, specifically EC, confirmed by histopathology, a total of 22 lesions. All cases were examined both macroscopically and microscopically and were subjected to the technique of immunohistochemistry to investigate the presence of Ki-67 protein and caspase-3-cleaved. The results showed that adult cats, the elderly and mongrel are the most affected by the EC. The most frequent location of EC in cats is the nasal planum and the morphological keratinized type is the most frequent in the face of cat with EC. There was no correlation between the antibody Ki-67 and caspase-3-cleaved, however, high expression of these antibodies. This feature in other cancers indicates a poor prognosis and should therefore be further investigated in EC cats.
