The vulnerability of natural, economical and social systems to climate change has created urgent measures to reduce the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) with the objective of stabilizing the concentration of these gases in the atmosphere. The continued search for excellence in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in the organizations should not omit the management of emissions of GHG. The objective of this study is to discuss the main elements and issues of the systematization and verification of the inventory of emissions in the oil industry, with the intention of facilitating its application in the field of HSE management at oil companies. An exploratory, qualitative and bibliographic study is presented as a methodological option, with a discussion of the main technical framework and experiences of the industry in the management of GHG. As a final result of the study, based on ISO14064 norms, a standardized method of verification of GHG inventory in the oil industry is proposed
