Resumo: | The prevalence of obesity in childhood and adolescence has occupied a prominent role in discussions related to the health of young people, since excess body fat in children and adolescents, as well as in populations with older age may represent a dangerous factor health risk. Within this context, which involves a lack of physical activity and increased obesity, physical fitness constitutes a key indicator of the level of individual and community health, besides having recognized association between physical activity habits, health status and well being of this população.A Physical fitness is defined as the ability to perform physical activities, being dependent on innate or acquired characteristics of an individual. The health-related physical fitness involves capabilities that enable energy to develop their daily activities with vigor, providing a lower risk of developing diseases or chronic degenerative conditions. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate indicators of levels of health-related physical fitness of students 10-14 years in the city of Duque de Caxias - RJ. METHODS: A total of five schools were studied and 5 of the first district of the fourth district, indicated by the Education Department of the municipality. Of the total of 840 students in 10 randomly selected schools were evaluated 90.2% (n = 758) of whom 339 were girls and 419 boys. The 9.8% not assessed composes the group of dropouts project, missing classes and those whose parents or guardians did not sign the consent form esclarecido.A methodology for evaluating the HRF was the Project Sport Brazil (PROESP BR-2009). were used to evaluate Anthropometric measurements of weight, height and BMI. The construction of the database and the analyzes were performed with SPSS 19.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Bivariate analyzes were performed to identify factors associated with AFRS and improvement of health indicators among program participants. To this end, we adopted the Student t test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to compare means and to compare qualitative variables were performed using chi-square test and Yate's correction when the expected value is less than 5. The significance level was 5%. RESULTS: The test result of cardiorespiratory fitness and abdominal strength medium showed significantly higher in boys (GM), compared with the results of the group of girls (GMA) (p <0.05) . Regarding the flexibility test, the differences were not significant (p> 0.05) classifications of cardiorespiratory fitness test as a categorical variable in the groups Boys and Girls, there was more unsatisfactory results in the group of boys, since 64.9% performed "very weak", compared to 48.6% of girls (p <0.001). The level of excellence in this test results were similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: Although much is being thought of as the health education in physical education classes, little impact on fitness levels can be observed. On the other hand one should point out that physical education does not seek immediate results, since their actions are likely to allow changes at a future time. What we expect is that the body practices conducted in physical education classes, can walk for a physically active life and, thus, prevent the onset of diseases associated with physical inactivity. |

What we expect is that the body practices conducted in physical education classes, can walk for a physically active life and, thus, prevent the onset of diseases associated with physical inactivity.
