One of the most relevant aspects of the 20th century, which we continue to witness in the 21st century, is the emergence of the reclaiming of memory. This is mainly due to the fact that the past century served as the arena for numerous social convulsions and transformations (two world wars, the Civil Rights Movement, dictatorships, decolonization etc.). Testimonial literature is part of a body of textualities that, besides allowing for the knowledge of alternative histories, are ethically committed to the communities they represent. Through these testimonial narratives, memory is reclaimed and contested histories are foregrounded. In the works analyzed in this thesis, we will become acquainted with the stories of undocumented Mexican immigrants and the complex border relation between Mexico and the U.S. In this way, the study presented here proposes to undertake the task of understanding the historical and cultural processes which define Mexican-Anglo relations.
