This research demonstrates the consolidation of the international practices used by bodies which, like the General Coordination for Accreditation of the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Cgcre/Inmetro), are signatories of the mutual recognition arrangement of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). The research presents a proposal to modify the process of accreditation of laboratories aiming at improving Cgcre/Inmetro s the management system. This research reviews the laboratory accreditation process done by Cgcre/Inmetro, as well as information on the same type of bodies and their accreditation methodologies and the best practices used by accreditation bodies signatories to the ILAC mutual recognition arrangement., The methodology of Benchmarking was used to carry out the present study by identifying comparable bodies and their best practices. The differences that were observed in the laboratory accreditation activity as performed by some of these bodies have served as a basis to consider changes in the Cgcre/Inmetro accreditation system.
