Semiolinguistics: from theory to teaching practice of reading news and reports

Resumo: | This article is an excerpt from an ampler research on reading instruction of news and reports. The study is based on semiolinguistic discourse theory with the general aim of connecting the basic concepts of this theoretical approach to the teaching of reading news and reports. As for the methodology, this study is bibliographic and applied in nature, focusing first on two basic concepts: the semiotization process of the world and the speech act. Then, a summary of Charaudeau’s theses on understanding and interpretation is presented, focusing on the distinction between the sense of language and the sense of discourse. After these two theoretical sections, we present some recommendations aimed at teachers of Portuguese working in secondary education, with the intention of contributing to future discussions on the interrelation between semiolinguistics and the teaching of reading media-journalistic texts. |

Do ponto de vista metodológico, esta pesquisa tem uma natureza bibliográfica e aplicada, com ênfase, inicialmente, em dois conceitos básicos: o de processo de semiotização do mundo e o de ato de linguagem. Em seguida, apresenta-se um resumo das proposições de Charaudeau sobre compreensão e interpretação, com destaque para as distinções entre sentido de língua e sentido de discurso.
