Resumo: | This study within the theoretical framework of grammaticalization (TRAUGOTT; DASHER, 2002; HEINE; KUTEVA, 2007; BYBEE, 2010, 2015) aims to investigate aspects of the historical constitution of the conjunctional periphrasis ‘sem que’. The research is guided by the following questions: 1) what properties of the preposition ‘sem’ enable its prepositional government of ‘que’ and its later reinterpretation as a conjunctional periphrasis? 2) keeping in mind that the preposition ‘sem’ has a unique spatial cognitive schema related to negative concomitance, and considering that, among other meanings, ‘sem que’ conveys concession, how could the transition between the source and target meanings be justified? This research is carried out on a diachronic perspective, based on a ‘corpus’ of texts which represents different states of the Portuguese language. The results show that syntactic and semantic properties of ‘sem’ have been relevant for the reanalysis of ‘sem que’, and that the semantic core of ‘negative concomitance’ has concomitantly undergone a contextual expansion toward the domains of manner, condition and concession. |

Liceu Literário Português2020-09-04info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtigo avaliado pelos paresapplication/pdfhttps://revistaconfluencia.org.br/rc/article/view/39010.18364/rc.v0i0.390Confluência; 2020: Issue 59; 177-200Confluência; 2020: Número 59; 177-200Confluência; 2020: Número 59; 177-200Confluência; 2020: Número 59; 177-200Confluência; 2020: Número 59; 177-2002317-41531415-740310.18364/rc.v1i59reponame:Confluênciainstname:Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF)instacron:UFFporhttps://revistaconfluencia.org.br/rc/article/view/390/240Copyright (c) 2021 Sanderléia Roberta Longhininfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLonghin, Sanderléia Roberta2022-02-13T03:40:37Zoai:ojs.emnuvens.com.br:article/390Revistahttps://revistaconfluencia.org.br/rcPUBhttps://revistaconfluencia.org.br/rc/oairevistaconfluencias.psd@id.uff.br||2318-45581678-7145opendoar:2022-02-13T03:40:37Confluência - Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF)false |
