The pedagogical function of melodrama in the Brazilian children’s and youth telenovela:: poetic analysis of the abandonment of the incapable in Chiquititas

Resumo: The pedagogical function is inherent to melodrama, which, in turn, is the backbone of the Brazilian telenovela – a finding that becomes even more evident in telenovela for children and adolescents. Therefore, this article aimed to understand, based on the dialogue between Paulo Freire and telepoetic studies, how some issues relevant to the age group of its target audience are treated in Chiquititas (SBT), exploring the perceptions of the relationship between media and education. The methodology prioritized, at first, the bibliographical research and theoretical review, to then enter the narrative and stylistic analysis of the object. The main results suggest, from the Freirian perspective, that there was a movement of the media to contextualize sociocultural conditionings, resulting in an educational-liberating process, with the possibility of fostering a critical reading of the facts involved.

El objetivo de este artículo fue comprender, a partir del diálogo entre Paulo Freire y los estudios telepoéticos, cómo se tratan en Chiquititas (SBT) algunos temas relevantes para el su público objetivo, explorando las percepciones de la relación entre medios y educación. La metodología priorizó, en un primer momento, la investigación bibliográfica y la revisión teórica, para luego adentrarse en el análisis narrativo y estilístico del objeto. Los principales resultados sugieren, desde la perspectiva freiriana, que hubo un movimiento de los medios de comunicación para contextualizar el condicionamiento sociocultural, resultando en un proceso educativo-liberador, con la posibilidad de propiciar una lectura crítica de los hechos involucrados.A função pedagógica é inerente ao melodrama, que, por sua vez, é a espinha dorsal da telenovela brasileira – constatação que se torna ainda mais evidente nas telenovelas infantojuvenis. O objetivo deste artigo foi compreender, com base no diálogo entre Paulo Freire e os estudos de telepoética, como alguns assuntos relevantes para a faixa etária de seu público-alvo são tratados em Chiquititas (SBT), explorando as percepções da relação entre mídia e educação. A metodologia priorizou, em primeiro momento, a pesquisa bibliográfica e de revisão teórica, para, em seguida, adentrar na análise narrativa e estilística do objeto.
