Resumo: The awarding of the Nobel Prize to African writers, such as Wole Soyinka and Nadine Gordimer, has contributed to increasing their visibility both as writers and intellectuals. This paper discusses their attitudes towards the consequences of literary fame, especially with respect to their public life and their presence in the media.
