Based on a corpus composed of an interview with G. W. Bush, president of the U.S.A., which took place on the 16th September 2001, precisely five days after the terrorist attack to the World Trade Center, this paper discusses the double role of language, representing and intervening, in its mediation between subject and world. The main reason to explain the interest of the analysis of this interview is the fact that Bush speaks of a “crusade” against the enemy, inadequate expression which brought about a vigorous reaction from islamitic community. The concept of scenography conceived by Maingueneau shows itself productive in putting forward the intervening dimension of language.
