Resumo: This paper aims to reflect critically on “vitality” as a distinctive characteristic of the literary language and also on the metaphor as its supreme realization. Specifically, in the context of Kafka’s novel In the Penal Colony we can see that a dead metaphor, apparently opposed to the vitality of language, becomes an efficient instrument of the reflection on the perversity of our relationship with automatic language.

Especificamente, Na colônia penal, Kafka mostra que a metáfora morta, aparentemente oposta à vitalidade da linguagem, pode se tornar um poderoso recurso da reflexão sobre a perversidade da nossa relação com a linguagem automatizada.Universidade Federal Fluminense2009-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uff.br/gragoata/article/view/33132Gragoatá; Vol. 14 No. 26 (2009): Metaphor - the everyday life and the inauguralGragoatá; v. 14 n. 26 (2009): Metáfora – o cotidiano e o inaugural2358-41141413-9073reponame:Gragoatáinstname:Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF)instacron:UFFporhttps://periodicos.uff.br/gragoata/article/view/33132/19119Copyright (c) 2019 Gragoatáinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGuerizoli-Kempinska, Olga2020-08-18T23:36:32Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/33132Revistahttps://periodicos.uff.br/gragoataPUBhttps://periodicos.uff.br/gragoata/oai||revistagragoata@gmail.com2358-41141413-9073opendoar:2020-08-18T23:36:32Gragoatá - Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF)false
