Accessibility in high education: perceptions of employees with deficiency

Resumo: This study has the objective to verify the of accessibility conditions in a public institution located in the state of Parana, starting from the perception of employees with disabilities. Seven employees of the respective university, who declares themselves as having disabilities participated in the research. The data was collected using semi structured interviews. The data was discussed, starting from authors who theorize about this theme, or that are based to the Historical – Cultural Theory. The results revealed that, on the perception of the participants, the institution still has many barriers to accessibility, however, the participants believe that the university is trying to eliminate those obstacles, especially the ones related to architectonic, making adaptations and constructions such as: ramps, parking lots, adapted bathrooms, and others. We concluded that there is a need of enhancement of accessibility policy, and an effective careful and continuous evaluation of employees, needs.

Este estudio tiene como objetivo verificar las condiciones de accesibilidad en una institución pública ubicada en el estado de Paraná, a partir de la percepción de los empleados con discapacidad. Participaron de la investigación siete empleados de la respectiva universidad, que se declaran con discapacidad. Los datos fueron recolectados mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los datos fueron discutidos, a partir de autores que teorizan sobre este tema, o que se basan en la Teoría Histórico-Cultural. Los resultados revelaron que, en la percepción de los participantes, la institución aún tiene muchas barreras de accesibilidad. Sin embargo, los participantes creen que la universidad está tratando de eliminar esos obstáculos, especialmente los relacionados con la arquitectura, haciendo adaptaciones y construcciones como rampas, estacionamientos, baños adaptados y otros. Concluimos que existe la necesidad de mejorar la política de accesibilidad y una evaluación efectiva, cuidadosa y continua de las necesidades de los empleados.O presente estudo teve por objetivo verificar as condições de acessibilidade de uma instituição pública de ensino superior, localizada no Paraná, a partir da percepção de funcionários com deficiência. Participaram da pesquisa sete funcionários da respectiva instituição que se declararam com deficiência. Para a coleta de dados foi utilizado um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturado. Os dados foram trabalhados mediante análise de conteúdo e discutidos a partir de autores que teorizam sobre a temática ou que se vinculam à Teoria Histórico-Cultural. Os resultados mostraram que, na percepção dos participantes, a instituição ainda se apresenta com muitas barreiras quanto à acessibilidade; todavia, segundo eles, esta tem procurado eliminá-las, sobretudo as que se relacionam à arquitetônica, realizando adaptações e construções como rampas, vagas de estacionamento, banheiros adaptados, entre outros. Concluímos que há necessidade de aprimoramento da política de acessibilidade na instituição e de um acompanhamento efetivo dos funcionários, de acordo com suas necessidades.
