Resumo: The aim is to discuss theoretically the issue of the disconnection process in the context of action research. A theoretical study about it was conducted in the works of Rene Barbier, Michel Thiollent, David Tripp, André Morin and Hugues Dionne. The analyses reveal the importance given to the starting point of the research as well as to the involvement and bonding among participants and researchers rather than to the final process. It was observed that the authors discuss less about the separation process between researchers and participants. Furthermore, it was observed that the phase towards the end of the research is characterized as a stage of results evaluation, theorizing, group writing the final report, publication, and results releasing, in which the participants remain in active status.
