Epidemiological characteristics of suicide in the state of Santa Catarina

Resumo: | The objective of this research was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of suicide in the regions of SDRs in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, during the year of 2009. Investigating the relationship of the HDI, the host cities of SDRs, the suicide rate and public policies aimed at suicide prevention. Data were collected using the Datasus, Mortality Information System (MIS) - External Causes. The results showed that more men commit suicide, the age group with the highest number of suicide deaths comprise 40 to 50 years, the hanging appeared as the most widely used method in both sexes and more married people commit the act of suicide. |

Investigar a relação do IDH, das cidades-sede das SDRs; o índice de suicídio e as políticas públicas voltadas à prevenção do suicídio. Os dados foram coletados utilizando-se o Datasus, Sistema de Informações de Mortalidade (SIM) − Causas Externas.
