Resumo: | Contemporary Portuguese literature presents eloquent examples of how the literary word did not abandon a political vocation of a committed art. Works of several current authors (Mário de Carvalho, Pedro Sena-Lino, Nuno Júdice, Ana Margaria de Carvalho e Lídia Jorge clearly converge in this matter towards the axiological and political commitment of literature – they demonstrate the unique role of the literary word as a form of critical awareness and complaint, thereby renewing, in the 21st century, a timeless function of literature. Thus, these authors are an example of permanent renovation of the engaged or committed literature (engagée), a striking concept at various times of the cultural and literary history. |
