Resumo: This article intends to take up in detail a conference, in 1969, by Michel Foucault. What is an author? And talk its main aspects. This is an issue that matters to scholars working mostly with literary texts or not (historians, critics, philosophers, etc.). So we take as the scope to disentangle an idea of authorship that allows to deal critically with this fundamental notion for  the  interpreters  of  text.  For  this  we  confront  the  Foucaultian  analysis  with  that  of  other thinkers: Roland Barthes, Roger Chartier and Jorge Luís Borges. Finally, we discuss ‘What is an author?’ through a close reading of the conference held by the philosopher Giorgio Agamben that interprets the light of the text ‘Life of Infamous Men ‘(1982). We delimit in this way what could be a sense of authorship as a gesture that is characterized by the recognition of a resistance of the capture of the subject in the devices.

Trata-se de um problema que interessa aos estudiosos que trabalham majoritariamente com textos literários ou não (historiadores, críticos, filósofos, entre outros). Assim, tomamos como escopo deslindar uma ideia de autoria que permita lidar criticamente com esta noção fundamental para os intérpretes de texto. Para tanto, confrontamos a análise foucaultiana com a de outros pensadores: Roland Barthes, Roger Chartier e Jorge Luís Borges. Finalmente, discutimos O que é um autor? por meio da atenta leitura da conferência de Foucault levada a cabo pelo filósofo Giorgio Agamben, que a interpreta à luz do texto A Vida dos Homens Infames (1982).
