The use of safety equipments among accident victims in the city of Uberaba-MG

Resumo: | Traffic accidents correspond to the third mortality cause in the world. This is a retrospective study with objectives of identifying safety’s equipments used by the victims of accidents and the main types of lesions occurred. Data were collected from charts of pre-hospital from the 8th Battalion Military Fire of the Uberaba city (MG), between June/2006 and June/2007 and the data were analyzed according to descriptive statistics. Most of the victims (69, 77%) was male and was about 30 and 44 years old. It was observed that 50, 70% were motorcycle accidents. Most of the victims (66, 10%) presented excoriations. In the automobile accidents, (25, 94%) used the seatbelt and 0, 63% had the airbag activated, while in the motorcycle accidents (68, 32%) they were using helmet. It is concluded that most automobile accidents didn’t use the seatbelt although it is an equipment of obligatory use, while it is observed larger adhesion to the helmet use. It is emphasized the necessity of implementation of new education programs that focus the importance of the use of equipments of safety contributing, this way, to the reduction of lesions in the traffic accidents.Descriptors: Traffic accidents; Wounds and injuries; Seat belts; Emergency nursing. |

Este estudio retrospectivo tiene el objetivo de identificar los equipos de seguridad utilizados por las victimas de accidentes y los principales tipos de lesiones ocasionadas. Los datos fueron recogidos de las cartas de pre-hospitalaria del 8 º batallón militar de Bomberos de Uberaba (MG), en el período comprendido entre Junio/2006 y Junio/2007 y fueron analizados utilizando estadística descriptiva. La mayoría de las victimas (69,77%) era del sexo masculino y la edad media 30,44 años. Fue observado que 50,70% fueron accidentes motociclísticos. La mayoría (66,10%), presentó heridas superficiales. En los accidentes automovilísticos, 25,94% utilizaban el cinturón de seguridad y 0,63% tuvieron la bolsa de aire accionada, mientras que en los accidentes moto ciclísticos 68,32% hacían uso de casco. Fue concluido que en la mayoría de los accidentes automovilísticos no era utilizado el cinturón de seguridad aunque es un equipamiento de uso obligatorio, sin embargo se observa mayor adhesión al uso del casco. Se hace énfasis a la necesidad de implementación de nuevos programas de educación que enfoquen la importancia del uso de equipos de seguridad, contribuyendo de esta forma, para la reducción de lesiones en los accidentes de tránsito.Descriptores: Accidentes de tránsito; Heridas y traumatismos; Cinturones de seguridad; Enfermería de urgencia.Acidentes de trânsito correspondem à terceira causa de mortalidade no mundo. Os dados foram coletados das fichas de atendimento pré-hospitalar do 8º Batalhão de Bombeiros Militar, do município de Uberaba-MG, relativos ao período de junho/2006 a junho/2007 e foram analisados segundo estatística descritiva. A maioria das vítimas 69,77% era do sexo masculino e idade média de 30,44 anos. Observou-se que 50,70% foram acidentes motociclísticos. A maioria 66,10% apresentou escoriações. Nos acidentes automobilísticos, 25,94% utilizavam o cinto de segurança e 0,63% tiveram o air bag acionado, enquanto nos acidentes motociclísticos 68,32% faziam uso do capacete. Conclui-se que na maioria dos acidentes automobilísticos não utilizava o cinto de segurança embora seja equipamento de uso obrigatório, enquanto observa-se maior adesão ao uso de capacete. Enfatiza-se a necessidade de implementação de novos programas de educação que foquem a importância do uso de equipamentos de segurança contribuindo assim para a redução de lesões nos acidentes de trânsito.
