Resumo: The aim was to describe the use of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) in dissertations and theses developed in Brazilian Postgraduate Programs (Master and PhD). Documentary and quantitative study conducted from theses and dissertations published between 2000 and 2018 in the catalogs of the Center for Studies and Research in Nursing of the Brazilian Nursing Association and in the portal of journals of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). Twenty-six theses and 92 dissertations were selected. The academic production on the ICNP® has increased, with a predominance of methodological studies (36.1%), quantitative approach (89.8%), from the Northeast region (45.8%), focused on the care practice (88.2%), with themes related to adult health (45.3%), and descriptors related to Nursing. Through evaluation of indicators it was possible to unveil research patterns and identify trends in Postgraduate studies, which may guide the performance of further studies about the ICNP®. Descriptors: Nursing; Classification; Terminology; Nursing Research; Education, Nursing, Graduate.

Descriptors: Nursing; Classification; Terminology; Nursing Research; Education, Nursing, Graduate.
