Sensitizing the nursing team for humanized care in mental health by educational workshops

Resumo: | This exploratory-descriptive study was held in a psychiatric in-patient institution in the north of Paraná State/Brazil in 2005. The purposes were: sensitize the nursing team for humanized care to patients with mental disorder. Twenty-one (21) nursing technicians and twenty-five (25) nursing assistants participated. Data were collected by workshops. Group dynamics were grounded by theoretical background on human communication and interpersonal relationship. It was verified that professionals perceive patients with mental disorder as human beings who need to be rendered care in their wholeness; on the other hand, workshops enabled a reflection on the delivered care and awakened their critical sense on the professional practice, bringing about care re-meaning. |

Objetivo fue: sensibilizar equipo de enfermería a un cuidado humanizado al paciente con trastorno mental. Participaron 21 técnicos y 25 auxiliares de enfermería. Los datos fueron recogidos por medio de oficinas. Las dinámicas de grupo fueron fundamentadas en referenciales teóricos de la comunicación humana y relación interpersonal. Se verificó que los profesionales perciben el portador de trastorno mental como un ser humano que necesita ser cuidado en su integralidad; por otro lado, el desarrollo de los cursos ha proporcionado una reflexión sobre el cuidado desarrollado y un despertar del senso crítico de la práctica profesional, tornando posible la “resignificación” del cuidado.Esta pesquisa exploratória e descritiva foi realizada em uma instituição psiquiátrica de internação integral da Região Norte do Paraná no ano de 2005. O objetivo foi de descrever e avaliar o resultado da implementação de oficinas de sensibilização da equipe de enfermagem para um cuidado humanizado ao paciente com transtorno mental. Participaram 21 técnicos e 25 auxiliares de enfermagem. Os dados foram coletados mediante oficinas e, as dinâmicas de grupo foram fundamentadas em referenciais teóricos da comunicação humana e relação interpessoal.
