Handwashing: the adhesion among nursing professional on post-anesthetic recovery room

Resumo: Despite the importance of hands in the chain of transmission of hospital infections (IH) and the effects of the procedures for hygienisation lowering the rates of infection, many professionals are passive in the face of the problem, while the services take little unique and creative ways to engage professionals in educational campaigns for hygienisation of hands (HM). Quantitative study, carried out from August of 2006 to July of 2007 in a hospital school in Goiânia-GO, which aims to verify the frequency and the technique used to identify the HM between professional nursing team of the SRPA. The results showed that joining the HM was low for all opportunities observed. The categories of procedures in which the professionals least sanitized hands, both before and after the completion of the procedures were: oxygen, maintenance of venous access, monitoring / measurement of SSVV, records of nursing and transportation of the patient. None of the professionals observed held the technique of HM as recommended by the literature. Despite the simplicity and importance, the HM is, and, unfortunately, is still a challenge for drivers of infection, because through this and other studies, there is still resistance of the professionals in it.

Estudio cuantitativo, realizado entre agosto/2006 a julio/2007 en un hospital escuela de Goiânia, GO, que tuvo por objetivo verificar la frecuencia y la técnica utilizada para la higienización de las manos (HM) entre profesionales de enfermería del equipo de la sala de recuperacióm pos anestesica, SRPA. Los resultados mostraron que la adhesión a la HM fue baja para todas las oportunidades observadas. Las categorías de procedimientos en los que los profesionales menos higienizaram las manos, tanto antes como después de la conclusión de los procedimientos fueron: oxígeno, el mantenimiento del acceso venoso, el seguimiento / medición de SSVV, registros de enfermería y transporte del paciente. Ninguno de los profesionales he realizado la técnica de HM según lo recomendado por la literatura. A pesar de la sencillez y importancia, la HM es, todavía, un desafío para los controladores de infección, pues vemos, a través de este y otros estudios, que aún hay resistencia de los profesionales en la HM.Apesar da importância das mãos na cadeia de transmissão das infecções hospitalares (IH) e os efeitos da sua higienização na diminuição das taxas, muitos profissionais são passivos diante do problema, enquanto os serviços adotam formas pouco originais e criativas para envolver os profissionais em campanhas educativas. Este estudo descritivo quantitativo, realizado de agosto/2006 a julho/2007 em um hospital escola de Goiânia-GO, objetivou verificar a freqüência e identificar a técnica utilizada para a higienização das mãos (HM) entre os profissionais de enfermagem da sala de recuperação pós-anestésica. Os resultados mostraram que a adesão à HM foi baixa para todas as oportunidades observadas. As categorias de procedimentos nas quais os profissionais menos higienizaram as mãos, tanto antes como após a realização dos procedimentos, foram: instalação/manutenção de oxigenoterapia, manutenção de acesso venoso, monotorização/aferição de sinais vitais, registros de enfermagem e transporte do paciente. Nenhum profissional realizou a técnica de HM como recomenda a literatura.
