Self-care in individuals with high blood pressure: a bibliographical study

Resumo: | This is a bibliographical study of a qualitative nature, which aims to identify the way self-care by patients with with high blood pressure has been approached in Brazilian literature. The selection of the material was conducted by consulting the BIREME database. Eleven articles that fit the study were selected and analyzed during the months of September and October 2006. The articles highlighted that the problems with self-care refers mainly to lack of awareness and adherence to treatments. Family participation is extremely important in order to solve these difficulties. The studies emphasize the actions by the interdisciplinary staff in order to solve and understand the perspective of the patient with high blood pressure, and also work on the educational support for self-care by those who suffer from this ailment. The family is considered an agent of support in the care of individuals with high blood pressure. Professionals are urged to modify their behavior, mainly in regards to health advice, by rethinking it as an instrument for control of that illness.Key words: Hypertension; Self-care; Family; Patient care. |

La selección del material fue a partir de la consulta al BIREME. Fueron seleccionados once artículos que se adecuaban al estudio. Los mismos fueron analizados en los meses de septiembre y octubre de 2006. Los artículos destacaron que el déficit del autocuidado se refieren, principalmente, al desconocimiento y no-adhesión a las maneras de tratamiento, siendo la participación familiar importante para el auxilio en la solución de esta dificultad. Los estudios valorizaron el abordaje del equipo interdisciplinario para observar y comprender la visión del individuo sobre la hipertensión arterial y actuar en el soporte educacional del hipertenso para la realización del autocuidado. Se considera la familla un agente de soporte para el cuidado al individuo hipertenso. Profesionales necesitan cambiar sus conductas, principalmente para el consejo en salud, repensando su práctica en cuanto instrumento responsable por el control de la enfermedad.Palabras clave: Hipertensión; Autocuidado; Familla; Atención al paciente.Estudo bibliográfico de natureza qualitativa, cuja finalidade foi identificar a forma como o autocuidado do hipertenso tem sido abordado na literatura nacional. A seleção do material se deu a partir de consulta à BIREME. Foram selecionados onze artigos que se adequavam ao estudo, analisados nos meses de setembro e outubro de 2006. Os artigos destacaram que o déficit de autocuidado refere-se, principalmente, ao desconhecimento e não adesão às formas de tratamento, sendo que a participação familiar é importante para auxiliar na solução desta dificuldade. Os estudos valorizaram a abordagem da equipe interdisciplinar para observar e compreender a visão do indivíduo sobre a hipertensão arterial e atuar no suporte educacional da pessoa com hipertensão arterial para a realização do autocuidado. Considera-se a família um agente de suporte para o cuidado a essas pessoas.
