Resumo: | doi: 10.5216/ree.v12i4.7270The Community Health worker (CHW) is a newly inserted professional in the health staff and considering his inclusion in the community is expected to occur his performance based on Health Promotion. This paper aims to discuss the actions taken by the Community health worker. This reflection came from the theoretical and practical experience of the authors among these health professionals. It was possible to see that the CHW performs few activities for Health Promotion and almost none of these builds on the empowerment of the population, after all his actions show aimed at disease prevention. The main allocation referred to this work is to be the link between community and service. Somehow, this professional flexnerian training may be contributing to this hygienist and a little liberating practice. We concluded that it is necessary to rethink the supervision of the work with this professional review the concepts of health and illness of the whole team. El objetivo de este trabajo es una reflexión sobre las medidas adoptadas por los agentes comunitarios de salud. Esta reflexión viene de la experiencia teórica y práctica de los autores entre los profesionales de la salud. Fue posible ver que el ACS realiza pocas actividades para la promoción de la salud y casi ninguna de estas se basa en el enfoque en el empoderamiento de la población, después todas sus acciones son para la prevención de enfermedades. La dotación principal se refirió a esta obra ha de ser el enlace entre la comunidad y servicio. De alguna manera, esta formación flexneriana de esto profesional puede estar contribuyendo a esta práctica higienista e no emancipadora. Llegamos a la conclusión de que es necesario repensar la supervisión del trabajo dese profesional con la revisión de los conceptos de salud y enfermedad del equipo en su conjunto. Descriptores: Recursos humanos en salud; Trabajo; Promoción de la salud.doi: 10.5216/ree.v12i4.7270O Agente Comunitário de Saúde (ACS) é um profissional recém inserido nas equipes de saúde e considerando sua inserção na comunidade espera-se que sua atuação ocorra com base na Promoção da Saúde. O objetivo desse artigo é refletir sobre as ações realizadas pelos Agentes Comunitários de saúde. Tal reflexão partiu da experiência teórico-prática das autoras junto a esses profissionais de saúde. Foi possível perceber que o ACS realiza poucas atividades de Promoção da Saúde e que quase nenhuma destas toma por base o enfoque no empowerment da população, afinal suas ações se mostram voltadas para a prevenção de doenças. A principal atribuição referida a esse profissional é a de ser o elo entre comunidade e serviço. De certa forma, a formação flexeneriana desse profissional pode estar contribuindo para essa prática higienista e pouco emancipadora. Concluí-se que seja necessário repensar a forma de supervisão do trabalho desse profissional com revisão das concepções de saúde-doença da equipe como um todo.
