Definitions for the nursing outcome behavior for falls prevention: an integrative review

Resumo: Currently there is a need to measure the risk for falls consistent with the standardized nursing language. We selected the nursing outcome Behavior for Falls Prevention and aimed to identify evidence about its elements, the measures and to compare literature’s outcomes and the existing NOC indicators. It’s a integrative review, conducted between April and November 2009 by identifying the research question, establishing criteria for inclusion/exclusion, extraction of relevant information, evaluation, interpretation and synthesis. Most issues were cross-sectional surveys or experts perspectives. Some indicators weren’t identified in the literature and the risk factors such as fear of falling, below or above normal weight and incipient incontinence didn’t show NOC equivalents. The indicators ‘use of vision correction resources’ and ‘use of tied/appropriate sized shoes’ were considered insufficient to assess the risk factors such as sensory deficits and inadequate clothing/footwear. The indicators were identified and, as appropriate, definitions were proposed. Descriptors: Nursing; Nursing Process; Nursing assessment; Accidental falls; Prevention.

Descriptors: Nursing; Nursing Process; Nursing assessment; Accidental falls; Prevention.Debido a la necesidad de medir el riesgo de caídas, fue seleccionado el resultado Conducta de para  prevención de caídas en los resultados de enfermería de la Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), con el objetivo de identificar sus elementos, la medición y comparación con los indicadores existentes. La revisión integrativa se ha desarrollado entre entre abril y noviembre de 2009. Los destaques fueron los estudios transversales y perspectivas de los expertos. Algunos indicadores no fueron identificados y algunos factores de riesgo no mostró equivalentes NOC. Los indicadores uso de los recursos de corrección de la visión y el uso de zapatos en el tamaño adecuado non se consideraron suficientes para evaluar los factores de riesgo. Algunas de las definiciones constitutivas deben ser desarrolladas y este resultado de enfermería merece el refinamiento, principalmente, con respecto a sus indicadores. Los indicadores fueron identificados y las definiciones se han propuesto. Descriptores: Enfermería; Procesos de Enfermería; Evaluación de Enfermería; Caídas Accidentales; Prevención.Devido à necessidade de mensurar o risco de quedas em concordância à linguagem padronizada de enfermagem, foi selecionado o resultado de enfermagem Comportamento para Prevenção de Quedas da Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), com objetivo de identificar evidências sobre seus elementos, mensuração, comparação com indicadores existentes e construir definições constitutivas. Foi efetuada revisão integrativa entre abril e novembro de 2009, mediante identificação da questão, estabelecimento de critérios de inclusão/exclusão, extração das informações, avaliação, interpretação e síntese. Destacaram-se pesquisas transversais e perspectivas de especialistas. Os indicadores Uso de recursos de correção da visão e Uso de sapatos amarrados e do tamanho adequado foram considerados insuficientes para avaliar fatores de risco como déficits sensoriais e roupas/calçados inadequados. Percebe-se que algumas definições precisam ser melhor desenvolvidas e que esse resultado de enfermagem merece refinamento sobretudo referente aos indicadores. Foram identificados 22 indicadores e definições foram propostas baseadas nas evidências da literatura.
