Knowledge, attitudes, and practice by caregivers of children and adolescents undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis

Resumo: The objective of this study is to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practice by caregivers of children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and associate them with their socioeconomic conditions. A cross-sectional, inquiry type of study to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices was conducted by 30 caregivers. The differences in score means, according to socioeconomic conditions, were compared through Student’s t-Test or ANOVA, and p<0.05 was considered significant. Caregivers had difficulties in terms of knowledge, attitudes, and practice. A statistically significant difference was seen in the knowledge area related to the type of housing (p=0.001) and schooling (p=0.014). As far as the attitude is concerned, there was no significance. Regarding practice, there was a statistical difference in terms of the housing floor (p=0.015). Socioeconomic conditions were related to knowledge, attitudes, and practice by caregivers of children and adolescents with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Estudo de corte transversal, tipo inquérito que avalia Conhecimento, Atitude e Prática, realizado com 30 cuidadores. As diferenças das médias dos escores, segundo as condições socioeconômicas, foram comparadas através do Teste t de Student ou ANOVA; considerando como significativo, p <0,05. Os cuidadores apresentaram dificuldades relacionadas ao conhecimento, atitude e prática. Observou-se diferença estatisticamente significativa na dimensão do conhecimento relacionado ao tipo de moradia (p=0,001) e escolaridade (p=0,014). No que se refere à atitude, não houve significância. Com relação à prática, obteve-se diferença estatística quanto ao piso da moradia (p=0,015).
