VAMOS SUJAR O CERRADO? UMA REFLEXÃO NECESSÁRIA: LET’S MAKE THE CERRADO DIRTY? A NECESSARY REFLECTION

The Cerrado is the second largest Brazilian biome and, for several reasons, is threatened due to its indiscriminate. Although it is considered as the richest savanna in the world, the Cerrado has the lowest percentage of areas under full protection, which makes it vulnerable in its unprotected part. Among the various phytophysiognomies of the Cerrado, defined from the morphological characteristics of its plant community, the designations “Clean Field” and “Dirty Field” emerge. Unlike the Clean Field, considered to be a predominantly grassy formation, with rare shrubs and complete absence of trees, the Dirty Field is a physiognomic type that has sparse shrubs and sub-shrubs. Thus, the term “clean” comes from the absence of bushes and trees, and the term “dirty” originates from the presence of shrubs. In this perspective, the work aims to reflect on the clean and dirty adjectives, arising from a definition based on their use and human needs. The necessary reflection proposed in this articles is to review the way we relate to our environment. In a new definition, it is proposed that the clean fields are called Grass Fields and the dirty fields are called Shrub Fields. The adoption of new nomenclatures and meanings is based on the need for valorization, protection and survival of these phytophysiognomies for present and future generations.
