Resumo: The research that served as the basis for this dissertation was carried out in the Kalunga Community in the municipality of Monte Alegre de Goiás. The educational processes developed in the community were observed to verify the possibility of recognition and appreciation of culture. The problem investigated addressed: what are the limits and possibilities for recognizing and valuing the culture in the educational processes developed in the Kalunga Community of Monte Alegre de Goiás? The research was theoretically and methodologically based on Paulo Freire's theory of knowledge, in addition to Roque Laraia's approaches that address topics such as culture, education and the appreciation of knowledge constructed by students. Authors such as Kabengele Munanga, Beatriz Nascimento, Abdias Nascimento, Clóvis Moura, Nilma Lino Gomes and Petronilha Silva deal with the quilombo theme as a continuum, as a process of aggregation, struggle and resistance. To achieve the objectives outlined, a bibliographical research was carried out, aiming at an improved analysis of the theme from the perspective of authors who have been analyzing it: Real, Marinho, Taveira and Baiocchi. For the corpus of analysis, it was based on documents produced by the Municipal Department of Education of Monte Alegre de Goiás, such as the Pedagogical Political Project, the internal regulations and the curriculum of the Sucuri School of Monte Alegre de Goiás, as well as the textbooks adopted by the school. National and state documents dealing with the education of the remaining people were also analyzed. The research results may contribute to the characterization of the educational processes that are developed in the Kalunga community.

Foram observados os processos educacionais desenvolvidos na comunidade para verificar a possibilidade de reconhecimento e valorização da cultura. A problemática investigada abordou: quais são os limites e as possibilidades para reconhecimento e valorização da cultura nos processos educacionais desenvolvidos na comunidade Kalunga de Monte Alegre de Goiás? A escolha da Escola Municipal Sucuri se deu por ser o Núcleo Sucuri o local onde as manifestações culturais têm maior expressão entre outros núcleos, a exemplo da religiosidade. A pesquisa teve como base teórico-metodológica a teoria do conhecimento de Paulo Freire, somada às abordagens de Roque Laraia que abordam temas como cultura, educação e a valorização dos conhecimentos construídos pelos educandos. Autores como Kabengele Munanga, Beatriz Nascimento, Abdias Nascimento, Clóvis Moura, Nilma Lino Gomes e Petronilha Silva tratam da temática quilombo como continuum, como processo de agregação, luta e resistência. Para alcançar os objetivos traçados, foi realizada a pesquisa bibliográfica, objetivando uma análise aprimorada da temática a partir da visão de autores que vêm analisando o tema: Real, Marinho, Taveira e Baiocchi. Para o corpus de análise apoiou-se nos documentos produzidos pela Secretaria Municipal de Educação de Monte Alegre de Goiás, como o Projeto Político Pedagógico, o regimento interno e o currículo da Escola Sucuri de Monte Alegre de Goiás, bem como os livros didáticos adotados pela escola. Também analisou-se os documentos nacionais e estaduais que tratam da educação dos povos remanescentes. Constatou-se que os processos educacionais desenvolvidos na comunidade Kalunga, através da educação informal e não formal, valorizam a cultura daquele povo. No entanto, a educação formal na Escola Municipal Sucuri, do Núcleo Sucuri, necessita atender à legislação no que tange ao reconhecimento e valorização das práticas culturais da comunidade.
