Resumo: | Impact evaluations are an important instrument for verifying the efficiency and effectiveness of public policies, as well as serving as a measure to verify the correct expenditure of public resources. Given the above, as well as the lack of impact evaluation of the Programa Nacional do Livro e do Material Didático (PNLD), this research aims to promote an unprecedented impact evaluation of the mentioned program, measuring the impact of the PNLD on the dropout rate in Brazil. For this, the Propensity Score Matching was the method used, estimating the average effect of the treatment in the treated - ATT. According to the results obtained, it is possible to observe that the program has the expected effect of reducing the dropout rate in schools that chose to participate in the PNLD, as well as it was also identified that other variables, such as the presence of computer lab and library in the school, when associated with the PNLD, contribute to the reduction in the dropout rate. |

Diante do exposto, assim como da ausência de avaliações de impacto do Programa Nacional do Livro e do Material Didático (PNLD), esta pesquisa tem como objetivo promover uma avaliação de impacto inédita do referido programa, mensurando o impacto do PNLD na taxa de abandono escolar no Brasil. Para tal, o Propensity Score Matching foi o método utilizado, estimando o efeito médio do tratamento nos tratados – ATT.
