Resumo: | Introduction: The thickness of the dental substrate is a factor that interferes with the result of the evaluation of the pulp oxygen saturation level, capable of reducing the pulse oximeter accuracy. This study evaluated the interference of enamel-dentin thickness in the interpretation of the pulse oximeter, having as variation factors the finger oxygen saturation and the presence and absence of light. Materials and Methods: Forty-two healthy human lower molars were sectioned centrally in the mesiodistal direction. After sectioning, the buccal and lingual faces were worn on the dentin surface and evaluated at 4.0mm, 3.0mm and 2.0mm thickness. A reference device was made for the alignment of the pulse oximeter diode, buccal tooth face, participant's little finger, lingual face and receiving diode. The positive control of the experiment was performed on the participant's finger without interposition of the dental faces, and the negative by juxtaposition of the dental faces without the participant's finger. All measurements were performed in the presence and absence of light. The variables were described by the mean and standard deviation, and the confidence interval presented. To compare the groups, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used, followed by Bonferroni correction. Student's t-test was used to compare paired samples, and to assess the correlation between oxygen saturation and pulse level, the Pearson Correlation Coefficient was used. The significance level of 5%. Results: The average level of oxygen saturation in the finger was lower when the dental structure of 4.00.2mm, 92.7% and 89.3% was interposed, in the presence and absence of light, respectively, than when it was 3.00.2mm, 95.5% and 94.5%, and 2.00.2mm, 96.4% and 96.0% (P <0.001). The mean oxygen saturation level in the positive control was 96.1%. In the negative control samples, no oximetry and pulse results were recorded. Conclusions: The thickness of the dental structure interfered with the pulse oximeter interpretation, with significant reduction of oxygen saturation level for larger thicknesses, and the presence and absence of light changed the pulse oximeter interpretation. |

Este estudo avaliou a interferência da espessura de esmalte-dentina na interpretação do oxímetro de pulso, tendo como fatores de variação a saturação de oxigênio do dedo e a presença e ausência de luz. Materiais e Métodos: Quarenta e dois molares inferiores humanos hígidos foram seccionados na porção central no sentido mesiodistal. Após o seccionamento, as faces vestibular e lingual foram desgastadas na superfície correspondente à dentina e avaliadas nas espessuras de 4,0mm, 3,0mm e 2,0mm. Foi confeccionado um dispositivo de referência para o alinhamento do diodo emissor do oxímetro de pulso, face vestibular do dente, dedo mínimo do participante, face lingual e diodo receptor. O controle positivo do experimento foi realizado no dedo do participante sem a interposição das faces dentárias, e o negativo, por meio da justaposição das faces dentárias, sem o dedo do participante. Todas as mensurações foram efetuadas na presença e ausência de luz. As variáveis foram descritas pela média e desvio-padrão, e o intervalo de confiança apresentado. Para comparar os grupos foi empregada a análise de variância (ANOVA), seguida da Correção de Bonferroni. O teste t de Student foi usado para comparar amostras emparelhadas, e para avaliar a correlação entre o nível de saturação de oxigênio e do pulso foi utilizado o Coeficiente de Correlação de Pearson. Considerou-se o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: O nível médio de saturação de oxigênio no dedo mostrou-se mais baixo quando foi interposta a estrutura dentária de 4,00,2mm, 92,7% e 89,3%, na presença e ausência de luz, respectivamente, do que quando foi a de 3,00,2mm, 95,5% e 94,5%, e a de 2,00,2mm, 96,4% e 96,0% (P<0,001). O nível médio de oxigênio no controle positivo foi de 96,1%. Na amostras do controle negativo não foi registrado resultado de oximetria e de pulso.
