Resumo: | The article analyzes the process of constitution and closing of a degree course in Rural Education at UTFPR, Campus Dois Vizinhos. The historical context that allowed the emergence of this course in Brazil is analyzed; the factors that contributed to the opening of the course at the mentioned university; results of the implementation and the difficulties encountered for maintenance are presented, as well as the difficulties encountered by graduates to obtain work in the training area. Finally, an analysis is made of the factors, internal and external to the university, that led to the closure of the course. Methodologically, a questionnaire was applied to the graduates of the first group of the course, analysis of documents (Pedagogical Project of the Course, minutes of the Structuring Teaching Nucleus and the Collegiate), as well as the authors' experience as teachers and managers. Se analiza el contexto histórico que permitió el surgimiento de este curso en Brasil; los factores que contribuyeron a la apertura del curso en la mencionada universidad; se presentan los resultados de la implementación y las dificultades encontradas para el mantenimiento, así como las dificultades encontradas por los egresados para conseguir trabajo en el área de formación. Finalmente, se hace un análisis de los factores, internos y externos a la universidad, que llevaron al cierre de la carrera. Metodológicamente se aplicó un cuestionario a los egresados del primer grupo del curso, análisis de documentos (Proyecto Pedagógico del Curso, actas del Núcleo Docente Estructurador y del Colegiado), así como la experiencia de los autores como docentes y directivos. Analisa-se o contexto histórico que permitiu o surgimento deste curso no Brasil; os fatores que contribuíram para a abertura do curso na universidade referida; apresenta-se resultados da implantação e as dificuldades encontradas para a manutenção, bem como as dificuldades encontradas pelos egressos para a obtenção de trabalho na área de formação.
