Resumo: This article aims to analyze the performance of higher education institutions in Latin America, in comparison with university classifications prepared by specialized consultants, with the aim of developing a unitary classification. For this, the methodology used consisted in analyzing university classifications of consultants, and thus, developing a global classification. The results showed that Latin America still lacks representation of universities in world rankings, since they present certain barriers in some parameters. The main conclusions are that, analyzing the results of the classifications in general, it is possible that the manager points out possible weaknesses and invests in them, as well as, when there are positive results, continue investing in this line of action.

Para esto, la metodologia utilizada consistió en analizar clasificaciones universitarias de consultores, y así, elaborar una clasificación global. Los resultados mostraron que América Latina aún carece de representación de las universidades en los rankings mundiales, ya que presentan ciertas barreras en algunos parámetros. Las principales conclusiones son que, analizando los resultados de las clasificaciones en general, es posible que los rectores señalen posibles debilidades e inviertan en ellas, así como, cuando hay resultados positivos, sigan invirtiendo en esta línea acción.Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar o desempenho das instituições de ensino superior na América Latina, em comparação com as classificações universitárias elaboradas por consultores especializados, com o objetivo de desenvolver uma classificação unitária. Para tanto, a metodologia utilizada consistiu em analisar as classificações universitárias dos consultores e, assim, desenvolver uma classificação global. Os resultados mostraram que a América Latina ainda carece de representatividade das universidades nos rankings mundiais, uma vez que apresentam certas barreiras em alguns parâmetros.
