Resumo: The purpose of this article is to discuss the higher education expansion, especially the teacher formation in distant learning. We present statistical data of the Higher Education Census for the year 2017, which demonstrates a significant increase in student applications over the last ten years. By analyzing this data, we found that this expansion mainly in the private sector. Therefore, based on critical authors, we look forward to discussing the dominance of this sector in the education field, whose main purpose is profit, so that we can understand whether the higher education, through private means, have contributed to the democratization or to the commodification of education.

Traemos dados estadísticos del Censo de Educación Universitaria para el año de 2017, demostrando um aumento significativo de las matriculaciones em la última década. Al analizar estos dados, hemos descubierto que esta expansión es, sobre todo, en el sector privado. Por lo tanto, sobre la base de autores críticos, buscamos discutir la supremacia de este sector en el campo de la educación, apunta al beneficio final. Buscamos entender si la expansión de la educación universitária, a través de la ruta privada, há contribuído a la democratización o a la mercantilización de la educación. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir sobre a expansão da educação superior, em especial, na formação de professores na modalidade a distância. Apresentamos dados estatísticos do Censo da Educação Superior relativas ao ano de 2017 que mostram um aumento significativo nas matrículas na última década. Ao analisar tais dados, constatamos que essa expansão é, sobretudo, do setor privado.
