Reflections and guidelines for the study of vernacular landscapes

Resumo: Coined by J.B Jackson in the 1970s, the concept of Vernacular Landscape was used to appreciate certain landscapes in the United States that were considered banal or common, seeking to interpret and value it. Since then, this concept has been worked within the studies of Cultural Landscape. Despite the wide range of possible interpretations, the Vernacular Landscape as a concept does not have the systematic theoretical and methodological it deserves. The aim of this article is to fill this gap by conceptualizing it and look for the particularities that differentiate it from other categories of Cultural Landscape. Therefore, we defined certain guidelines and parameters for its interpretation, followed by the most relevant research approaches. The article also brings, as an example, the of an Invernada (similar to paddocks in the northern hemisphere), where some of the guidelines discussed are applied in the text. A pesar de la gran cantidad de posibles interpretaciones, el Paisaje Vernácula no tiene un tratamiento teórico y metodológico sistemático. En este artículo se pretende llenar este vacío, para ello se trata de conceptualizar el término y buscar las características que la diferencian de otras categorías de paisaje cultural. A continuación, definimos qué pautas y parámetros de análisis se pueden utilizar para su estudio, seguidos de los enfoques de investigación más relevantes. El artículo presenta el ejemplo de un estudio con el paisaje vernácula en el norte de Paraná (Brasil) que tiene como ejemplo la localidad de Invernada, donde se aplican algunos de los parámetros discutidos en el texto. Palabras-Clave: Paisaje vernáculo; Paisaje cultural; Metodología Teoría y práctica.O conceito de Paisagem Vernacular foi utilizado pela primeira vez por J.B Jackson, ensaísta estadunidense que procurou interpretar e valorizar as paisagens comuns observadas nos Estados Unidos da América. E, desde então, esse conceito vem sendo trabalhado dentro dos estudos de Paisagem Cultural. A despeito da riqueza de interpretações possíveis, a Paisagem Vernacular não possui um tratamento teórico e metodológico sistemático. Este artigo procura preencher esta lacuna e para isso procuramos conceituar o termo e procurar pelas particularidades que diferencia das demais categorias de Paisagem Cultural. Em seguida definimos quais diretrizes e parâmetros de análise podem ser utilizados para seu estudo, seguido das abordagens mais relevantes de pesquisa.
