GEOGRAPHY AND GENDER IN BRAZIL: AN ANALYSIS OF THE PROFILE OF THE FEMINIZATION IN THE SCIENTIFIC FIELD

Resumo: The text aims at analyzing the (in)visibility of the women as subject of interest of the Brazilian Geographic Science, as well as its profile as knowledge producers in this field. Thus, analyses involving two fundamental bases were carried out. The first one considered the female presence in the organizational structures of the academy in the area of Geography and the second interpretative basis was centered in the Brazilian scientific production, observing both the female profile concerning intellectual elaboration and matters related to gender or women relations. The undertaken analysis admits saying that despite the increasing feminization of the Brazilian Geography, the scientific discourse has been kept with little access to the expansion of the understanding of the relations between space and gender. Such inaccessibility has the foundation both in the male hegemony occupying leadership positions and in the reproduction of the androcentric and eurocentric epistemology version. En ese sentido, fueron realizados análisis que involucraron dos ejes fundamentales. El primero consideró la presencia femenina en las estructuras organizacionales de la academia en la área de Geografía, y el segundo eje interpretativo estuvo centrado en la producción científica brasileña, observando tanto el perfil femenino de elaboración intelectual como los temas relativos a las relaciones de género o mujeres. El análisis emprendido permite la afirmación de que, a pesar de la creciente feminización de la Geografía brasileña, el discurso científico se ha mantenido poco permeable a la expansión de la comprensión de las relaciones entre espacio y género. Tal impermeabilidad está cimentada tanto en la hegemonía masculina en los puestos de poder como en la reproducción de la versión epistemológica androcéntrica y eurocentrada. Nesse sentido, foram realizadas análises que envolveram dois eixos fundamentais. O primeiro considerou a presença feminina nas estruturas organizacionais da academia na área de Geografia, e o segundo eixo interpretativo esteve centrado na produção científica brasileira, observando tanto o perfil feminino de elaboração intelectual, quanto os temas relativos às relações de gênero ou mulheres. A análise empreendida permite a afirmação de que, apesar da crescente feminização da Geografia brasileira, o discurso científico tem se mantido pouco permeável à expansão da compreensão das relações entre espaço e gênero. Tal impermeabilidade está alicerçada tanto na hegemonia masculina nos postos de poder como na reprodução da versão epistemológica androcêntrica e eurocentrada.
