THE VISIBLE AND THE INVISIBLE: The death archeological landscape in São Cristóvão and Laranjeiras – SE

Resumo: This paper aimed to characterize the death archeological landscape in the eighteenth century towns of São Cristóvão and Laranjeiras in Sergipe state, by using the roughness for the identification of old and contemporary territories of the death. In order to carry out the study, the representation and the history information were employed as characterization methods, with a qualitative analytical approach. Therefore, the initial premise proclaims that the death led to the formation of a dominant landscape in the towns by means of its relationship with the catholic religion. Currently, towns that preserve traces of such landscapes, as São Cristovão and Laranjeiras, are liable to archeological studies. By analyzing the death roughness, it was recognize that, during the past, the representation of death was daily present in the people´s life. Thus, it was inferred that there is a death landscape in these eighteenth century towns created by visible and invisible roughness. The visible ones are constituted by still existent Churches, tombstones, and cemeteries. The invisible ones are represented by everything that is covered or was reinterpreted as tombstones, cemeteries, and rituals.

Pour effectuer cette étude, nous avons utilisé la représentation et l'histoire comme une méthode de caractérisation, une analyse entièrement qualitative. Ainsi, la prémisse initiale est que la mort serait un paysage dominant dans les villes de sa relation directe avec la religion catholique. Aujourd'hui, les villes qui gardent trace de ce paysage, comme São Cristóvão et Laranjeiras, inclure une lecture archéologique. Analyse les rugosités formant le paysage de la mort, nous percevons le passé que la représentation de la mort était présente dans la vie quotidienne. En ce sens, il a estimé qu'il y est un paysage de mort dans ces villes du XVIIIe siècle, formé par des rugosité visibles et d'autres invisibles. Le visible est constitué d'églises, de monuments funéraires et des cimetières existent toujours. Invisible englober tout ce qui est caché ou a été redéfini comme les pierres tombales, des cimetières et des rituels.O presente estudo tem por objetivo a caracterização da paisagem arqueológica da morte nas cidades setecentistas de São Cristóvão e Laranjeiras em Sergipe, utilizando as rugosidades e o que elas representam para a identificação dos antigos e atuais territórios da morte. Para realizar esse estudo utilizou-se a representação e a história como método de caracterização, uma análise totalmente qualitativa. Dessa forma, a premissa inicial é de que a morte formava uma paisagem dominante nas cidades a partir da sua relação direta com a religião católica. Nos dias atuais, as cidades que guardam vestígios dessa paisagem, como São Cristóvão e Laranjeiras em Sergipe, comportam uma leitura arqueológica. Analisando as rugosidades formadoras das paisagens da morte, percebe-se como no passado a representação da morte estava presente no cotidiano das pessoas. Nesse sentido, avaliou-se que existe uma paisagem da morte nestas cidades setecentistas, formada por rugosidades visíveis e outras invisíveis. As visíveis são constituídas pelas Igrejas, lápides e cemitérios ainda existentes.
