Resumo: | This article identifies and problematizes the exchanges between two structuring dimensions of territorial studies: economic science applied to geographical knowledge and power practices linked to territorial planning. For this purpose, the classic models of spatial economy are reviewed, which expanded the horizon of knowledge of geography, to the point of influencing the capitalist rationality of the Western world itself. For the case of Guatemala, a Central American country on the capitalist periphery, the application of territorial organization models such as regionalization and territorial planning is considered, with the aim of answering the question regarding the relationships between policies. of State, the processes of territorial integration and the spatial arrangements that are launched around the “new” paradigm of territorial planning. Para el caso guatemalteco, país centroamericano de la periferia capitalista, se considera la aplicación de modelos de organización territorial como la regionalización y el ordenamiento territorial, con la finalidad de responder a la interrogante en torno a las relaciones entre políticas de Estado, procesos de integración territorial y arreglos espaciales que se ponen en marcha alrededor del “nuevo” paradigma de ordenamiento territorial.
