EFFECTS OF PLANTING DATES ON AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF SOYBEANS IN THE CERRADO OF GOIÂNIA, BRAZIL

Several dates of planting were studied in four growing seasons (from 1973 to 1976) in dark-red latosol soil, clay texture. Stand was normal under rain conditions at the time of planting. All varieties were late flowering when planted at the end of October except “UFV-1” which decreased flowering linearly from the planting of the end of October through the end of December. Each 14 days interval after each planting showed an earliness of 5.1 and 6.5 days in the maturation of the “UFV-1” and “Jupiter” varieties. Plantings of the first two weeks of December showed higher plants and higher insertion of the first pod. “UFV-1” and “Jupiter” had the best yields in the plantings of November and in those of the first fortnight of December. The variety “Santa Rosa"; showed the best seed yields in the plantings of the end of October through the beginning of November. Seven dates of planting had better curve fittings than five dates of planting.
