Resumo: Broom craftsmanship from native and cultivated plants dry straw is a long tradition for small farmers families. In Goiás State the producers use the native cerrado palm Syagrus sp., but its availability is rapidly decreasing. In southern Brazil broomcorn brooms are traditional. Experiments carried out in Goiás have demonstrated good agronomic adaptability of broomcorn, making it a possible substitute for Syagrus. This research describes broomcorn farming systems in the states of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), São Paulo (SP) e Goiás (GO). Four cases were studied, in 1997 and 1998, through direct interviews with farmers and updated in 1999. The net margins over operation average cost were 92, 102, 100, and 59%, for RS, SP, GO (broomcorn), and GO (Syagrus), respectively.   KEY-WORDS: Sorghum bicolor; family agriculture; craft; broomcorn; brooms.

Escola de Agronomia - Universidade Federal de Goiás2007-12-13info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionAvaliado por paresapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.ufg.br/pat/article/view/2870Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical [Agricultural Research in the Tropics]; v. 30, n. 1, Jan./Jun. 2000; 97-102Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical (Agricultural Research in the Tropics); v. 30, n. 1, jan./jun. 2000; 97-102Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical; v. 30, n. 1, jan./jun. 2000; 97-1021983-4063reponame:Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical (Online)instname:Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG)instacron:UFGporhttps://revistas.ufg.br/pat/article/view/2870/2920Farias, Gabriella Aparecida Alves MartinsFarias, João GasparNoronha, José Ferreira deinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2009-06-24T19:52:37Zoai:ojs.revistas.ufg.br:article/2870Revistahttps://revistas.ufg.br/patPUBhttps://revistas.ufg.br/pat/oaiaseleguini.pat@gmail.com||mgoes@agro.ufg.br1983-40631517-6398opendoar:2024-05-21T19:55:23.562445Pesquisa Agropecuária Tropical (Online) - Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG)true
