CO-OPERATIVISM AS A DEVICE FOR TAKING PART IN AGRIBUSINESS: THE “COOPERAÇAFRÃO” EXPERIENCE IN MARA ROSA-GO

Resumo: This research investigates the challenges, dilemmas and possibilities present in the creation experience of the Cooperativa dos Produtores de Açafrão de Mara Rosa (Cooperaçafrão). With the intention of analysing this experience, as an instrument for insertion of family farmers in the turmeric agribusiness (pigment and seasoning), the text approaches, under a historical perspective, the genesis and growth of the agribusiness for this product in the region. The approach is focused on the conflictive social relations stabilished by social agents that take part in the production chain,exposing the difficulties faced by farmers, and pointing out specially the action of intermediary agents involved in the commercialization process. The study covers the creation of Cooperaçafrão, as a ";social capital"; establishing experience, characterized in what has been known as ";solidary co-operativism";, which aims to make possible the social and economic reproduction of family farmers in this production chain. O trabalho investiga os desafios, impasses e possibilidades envolvidos na experiência de criação da Cooperativa dos Produtores de Açafrão de Mara Rosa (Cooperaçafrão). Com a intenção de analisar essa experiência cooperativista, como instrumento de inserção de agricultores familiares no agronegócio do açafrão (corante e condimento), o texto aborda, em perspectiva histórica, a gênese e o crescimento do agronegócio do produto na região. O enfoque de análise procura dar visibilidade a relações sociais conflitivas tecidas pelos agentes sociais participantes da cadeia de produção, expondo-se as dificuldades enfrentadas pelos agricultores, tendo em vista, especialmente, a ação de agentes intermediários envolvidos no processo de comercialização. O trabalho compreende a criação da Cooperaçafrão como uma experiência instituidora de "capital social", enquadrada no que se tem designado como "cooperativismo solidário" e que tem como perspectiva viabilizar a reprodução social e econômica de agricultores familiares, na cadeia produtiva do açafrão.
