Resumo: In order to establish the correlation between soil potential acidity and SMP solution pH, 472 soil samples from the Goiás State cerrado area were studied. Soils were analyzed for H + Al by the calcium acetate at pH 7.0, SMP solution pH, and water pH methods. Data showed a correlation between SMP solution pH and soil H + Al content (r²=0.82), allowing the potential acidity determination in laboratory substitution for the equation obtained (y = 222.54 + 29.83x - 164,7x^0.5). Para se estabelecer uma curva de correlação entre a acidez potencial do solo e o pH SMP, foram estudadas 472 amostras de solos do cerrado goiano, as quais foram submetidas a análises laboratoriais para se determinarem os teores de H + Al pelo método do acetato de cálcio a pH 7,0 e o pH SMP e pH em água. A curva encontrada mostrou existir coeficiente de determinação do modelo, demonstrando haver correlação (r² = 0,82) entre o pH SMP e o teor de H + Al nos solos analisados, permitindo substituir, em nível de laboratório, a análise da acidez potencial pela utilização da fórmula obtida (y = 222,54 + 29,83x - 164,7 1x^0.5).
