Resumo: | This study was carried out with the objective to evaluate the effects of applied doses of topdressed nitrogen on the growth of common bean, cultivar BRS Horizonte. The experiment was conducted at the Embrapa Arroz e Feijão experimental station, Fazenda Capivara, Santo Antônio of Goiás, GO, in a distrophic red Latosol. The experimental design was a randomized complete block, with four replications and five doses of nitrogen, 0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1, and 240 kg ha-1, applied half at ten days after emergency (10 DAE) and, the other half, at 17 DAE, in the form of urea. The effects of the treatments were evaluated by the analysis of plant growth. Significant behavior differences were observed in the common bean physiological indexes as response to increasing levels of N in topdressing. O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar o crescimento do feijoeiro, cultivar BRS Horizonte, em função de doses de nitrogênio aplicadas em cobertura. O experimento foi conduzido na área experimental da Embrapa Arroz e Feijão, Fazenda Capivara, em Santo Antônio de Goiás, GO, em um Latossolo vermelho distrófico. Foi usado o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e cinco doses de nitrogênio, 0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 e 240 kg ha-1, aplicadas, metade aos dez dias após a emergência (10 DAE), e, a outra metade, aos 17 DAE, na forma de uréia. Os efeitos dos tratamentos foram avaliados pela análise de crescimento da planta. Ocorreu comportamento diferenciado nos índices fisiológicos do feijoeiro, em função das doses de N em cobertura, as quais apresentaram maiores valores nas plantas com maior suprimento de nitrogênio. Houve correlação positiva entre a duração da área foliar e a produtividade de grãos do feijoeiro.
