Resumo: The study was conducted at the Departament of Animal Science, Escola Superior de Agricultura de Lavras, Lavras, Minas Gerais, from July, 1980 to October, 1981. It was designed to compare the voluntary consumption and the nutritional value of the hays at three different stages. That hay was harvested at 60, 90 and 120 days. The voluntary consumption and nutritional value of the hays were determined by using 12 (twelve) sheep in metabolic cages. The experiment was divided into three parts. Each one was statistically analyzed on a 3 x 2 factorial scheme with two repetitions within a completely random experimental design. At the end, the collected data were statistically analyzed as one single experiment.

O presente trabalho foi realizado no Departamento de Zootecnia da Escola Superior de Agricultura de Lavras, no período de julho de 1980 a outubro de 1981. O objetivo foi comparar o consumo voluntário e a digestibilidade dos fenos de Brachiaria decumbens Stapf cv. Australiana e Brachiaria ruziziensis Gemam & Everard em três idades de corte (60, 90 e 120 dias). Para o estudo do consumo voluntário e da digestibilidade dos fenos, foram utilizados 12 carneiros mantidos em gaiolas de metabolismo, num experimento dividido em três ensaios, cada um em esquema fatorial 3 x 2, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com 2 repetições e no final fez-se uma análise conjunta dos ensaios. Estudou-se o consumo voluntário médio diário de matéria seca, de matéria seca digestível, de proteína digestível e de energia digestível e os coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente da matéria seca, da proteína bruta, da fibra bruta e da emergia bruta.
